Description
The lodge to Brackenhurst Hall, built around 1899 for W N Hicking, is a two-storey structure in the late 17th century Renaissance Revival style. It features roughcast walls with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The building has a cross plan and consists of three bays. The main gable, which faces the drive, includes an oval glazing bar window adorned with four keystones. Below this window is a three-bay Tuscan portico that covers a panelled door, flanked by single casement windows. The set-back wings each contain a single casement window. The west gable showcases a Venetian window with a keystone, with a cross casement window below it. The return angle and left wing also feature similar casement windows. On the north gable, there is an oval window with keystones, and beneath it is a central close boarded door. This lodge is a later example of its type and coincides with Hicking's elevation of Brackenhurst into Brackenhurst Hall.
