Description

Wellow Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge, situated on the south side of Rufford Lane, Rufford. The lodge is constructed of random rubble with red and yellow brick detailing, and has ashlar dressings. The roofs are covered in 20th-century Roman tiles and 19th-century patterned tiles. It features a chamfered brick plinth, dentillated eaves, ashlar cornice gutters, stepped coped gables with kneelers, and a paired central ridge stack. The building is single-storey with a garret, arranged in a T-plan shape with two bays. Windows are 20th-century casements set in splayed brick reveals, with chamfered ashlar lintels. The east front has a projecting gabled wing to the left, containing a canted bay window with four casements. Above this wing is a cartouche featuring an owl. To the right of the wing is a return angle porch with a doorway featuring a stepped-headed reveal containing a shield inscribed 'SH'. To the right of the porch is a double casement window. The north front has a projecting bay to the left and two double casement windows. Directly above is a similar casement. The west gable has a 20th-century casement in an altered doorway to the left, and two casements to the right. A Savile monogram is set within a circle above. The south side has two projecting, corniced square bay windows, each with a double casement window.
