Description

The Papermill is a corn mill that later became a paper mill and is now a house. It dates from the mid-18th century, was burnt down in 1809, and was rebuilt. The building was converted into a house in 1985. It features dressed sandstone and brick with pantile roofs and is two storeys high.

The south gable front has a doorway on the left with a plank door, and on the right, there are two 16-pane glazing bar casements under a segmental head, with two similar windows above. The west front has an off-centre doorway with a single window to the right and three deeply set 2-light casement windows to the left. Above, there is a blocked loft doorway to the left and a central inserted part-glazed loft doorway with a 2-light casement window beyond. The link section has a cart entrance, a 2-light casement, and a round-headed window.

The later two-storey brick mill has an inserted round-headed window and two inserted blocked doorway windows with casements on each floor. The north gable front features a central blocked doorway flanked by 2-light casements, with double loft doors above, a single window to the left, and two 2-light casement windows to the right. Above, there is another single light window to the left and three 2-light casements to the right. The link has two irregularly placed windows over a triple arched bridge, while the mill beyond has a blank painted front.

The interior was reconstructed in the 19th century, featuring cast iron pillars that support wooden beams.
