Description

A row of five cottages, now divided into four properties, located on Church Lane in Broughton. The original structure dates to the late 18th century, with a significant refronting undertaken in the mid-19th century. Number 4 was rebuilt in 1985. The cottages are constructed of brick with pantile roofs, featuring plain eaves and three ridge stacks. The buildings are arranged over two storeys and six bays. The 19th-century ground-floor openings are characterized by segmental-headed arches. The arrangement of the front includes two doors to the left, followed by three casement windows of varying sizes. To the right of those, a panelled door, another casement window, and then a larger 20th-century casement. A single-bay, single-storey addition from the 20th century is located to the right, with a 20th-century door and window. Above, the upper floor features a small casement window to the left, followed by three 19th-century casement windows, and a larger 20th-century casement to the right. The interior of number 4 shows two chamfered span beams, one with ogee stops. The 20th-century addition to the east is not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
