Description

East Thorpe House is an early 19th-century house located in Southwell. It is constructed of brick, with roughcast and colourwashed render, stone dressings, and a hipped slate roof. The building has a plinth, wooden eaves, and two ridge stacks. The windows are glazing bar sashes.

The house has a square plan, with a two-storey, three-window front. The central feature is a moulded round-headed doorcase with a keystone, containing a recessed six-panel door and a Gothic fanlight. A single window is located on either side of the doorcase. The rear and left side of the house each have two windows on each floor. A lower two-storey service wing is located on the right side. A hipped two-storey wing extends from the rear left of the house.

Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a scrolled fruitwood handrail and wooden and iron stick balusters. The first-floor landing has reeded Classical doorcases with cornices.
