Description

Mattersey House is a house dating from the mid-18th century with later 18th-century additions. It is constructed of red brick with hipped pantile roofs and has three brick gable stacks, with a further single gable stack to the right wing. Dentilated eaves run along the top of the building. The main house is two and a half storeys high and is three bays wide, set upon a plinth. It is accompanied by two-storey, single-bay wings added in the late 18th century, which are slightly set back from the main structure. The central doorway features a six-panelled door, a moulded surround with a keystone, and a traceried overlight. It is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. Above are three similar sashes, and on the top floor, three smaller sashes. All windows feature keystones. The right wing has a single glazing bar sash window on the ground floor and a smaller sash above, set under a segmental arch. The left wing has a large single Yorkshire sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor and a similar sash window above, also under a segmental arch. Single-storey, 20th-century extensions form the rear of the house.
