Description

Walnut Lodge is a house built in the late 18th century, constructed of brick with a pantile roof. It features a brick plinth, stone sills, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The building has plain eaves and three gable stacks, with wall ties in the right gable marked with the initials R.S. It is three storeys high and has three bays in an L-shaped plan.

The central entrance has a moulded timber doorcase supported by scrolled brackets under a hood, with a rectangular overlight that includes gothic tracery above a six-panelled door. On either side of the entrance are plain sash windows, while the upper floors feature three glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, and above that, three smaller glazing bar sashes. The rear elevation includes a 19th-century French window and a balcony door, along with irregular 18th-century window arrangements.

Inside, the house has moulded beams, two cast iron fireplaces from the 18th century set in Classical timber surrounds, a staircase with turned balusters and a scrolled handrail, and several 18th-century doors and latches.
