Description
5 and 7 Grove Street are a pair of late 18th or early 19th century houses. They have a Welsh slate roof with stacks at the gable ends and a moulded wooden eaves cornice. The houses are three storeys high and built of brick, with moulded stucco surrounds to the windows. The windows are hung sashes with glazing bars, although the central window has been blocked. Two-storey shallow bows flank the central window, with a stucco cornice and glazing bars to the upper lights. The ground-floor bow windows have three lights and are hung sashes with glazing bars, with brick voussoirs. Three inner windows to the first floor have moulded stucco surrounds, a cornice on consoles, and are hung sashes with glazing bars. An attractive wrought iron balcony is supported by brackets. The paired doorcases have stucco with reeded and fluted pilasters, a plain frieze, and a shallow cornice that breaks forward over the pilasters, featuring paterae. The central doorway is plainer, with a moulded surround, a flat hood, a panelled door, and a wrought iron fanlight. There are two steps leading up to the doors, and foot scrapers are also present.
