Description
Beech House is a former rectory that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 17th century, with significant alterations and additions made in the early 19th century, and further changes to the rear in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof, featuring two pairs of brick gable stacks.
The early 19th-century front elevation is two storeys high with a garret and consists of three bays. The ground floor includes three French windows with eight-pane casements, positioned above a central blocked opening that is flanked by single glazing bar sashes. The side front features a central six-panel, half-glazed door with a traceried overlight, which is framed by a moulded surround with narrow pilasters that support consoles and a lightly dentillated cornice. Above the door is a glazing bar sash, and on the second floor, there is a tall three-light Diocletian window. The earlier rear wing exhibits characteristic fenestration from the period.
Inside, the house boasts moulded cornices and architraves decorated with a diamond motif, along with lion heads in the corners. There is a curved staircase with straight balusters and carved strings, and the windows have panelled reveals.
