Description
The Pigeoncote at Barkworth Farm is an early 19th-century structure built of red brick and topped with a conical slate roof. It has an octagonal plan and stands two and a half stories tall, featuring a dentilated eaves course and a scalloped fascia board. The corners of the building are constructed with a lighter orange brick, creating a polychromatic effect.
On the half ground floor, there is a single door opening with a segmental head. Above this, a second door opening leads to the first floor, which has a projecting iron platform. The openings on the first and second floors consist of small lancets with chamfered jambs, with one opening on each face alternating between the first and second floors. Inside, the pigeoncote contains radiating perch spokes and remnants of a turntable system. Access to the second floor appears to have been provided by an external ladder leading to a door opening at the rear.
