Description
Broughton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features colour washed ironstone and brick coped tumbled gables, topped with a pantile roof that has exposed rafters, one gable, and a single large axial stack. The building has a three-unit plan and is single storey with attics. The entrance is off centre, featuring a 19th-century door with a segmental head, flanked by two 19th-century casement windows—one with two lights on the left and another with three lights on the right, both having timber lintels. To the far left is a 20th-century window with a cambered brick arch. The roof includes two steeply pitched dormers fitted with glazing bar sashes, which have rendered cheeks and bargeboards. To the right, there is a later brick extension. Evidence on the facade suggests that the original house may have consisted of only one unit. Inside, the farmhouse retains its original plan, featuring a large single stack and an adjacent staircase, along with one stop-chamfered beam. Although the rafters have been renewed, the 17th-century staggered butt purlins remain intact.
