Description
The fragment of Barlings Abbey is located on the west side of Barlings Low Barlings Lane. This structure dates from the 15th century and has elements from the 19th century. It features a west wall made of red brick, limestone ashlar, and coursed rubble. The west side is dressed in ashlar and includes a two-light mullion window with a chamfered mullion, which has been blocked with red brick. The east side consists of a lower wall made of rubble, featuring a fireplace on the left with a broad ashlar lintel and an inner 19th-century burnt header brick segmental head. Above the fireplace is a broken opening, and to the right is a deeply splayed blocked window with an outer ashlar segmental head. The wall above is made of red brick. This site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
