Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, built in 1848 by William Thompson in the Tudor style, with some minor alterations from the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a Collyweston slate roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles. It has two tall wall stacks and a single gable stack with diagonally set ashlar shafts. The structure is L-shaped, two storeys plus a garret, and has a four-bay front. The left bay is recessed while the right bay is advanced and gabled, showcasing a cusped openwork bargeboard.
There is an off-centre half-glazed panel door set in a Tudor arched surround, which is sheltered by a covered gabled porch that also has an openwork bargeboard. To the right, a two-storey canted bay window features tall three-light windows with a hipped Collyweston roof. To the left, there is a large five-light window followed by a three-light window. On the first floor, there is one two-light window with latticed panes and a three-light window. All windows are plain casements with chamfered ashlar surrounds. On the right gable, there is a small lancet window above which is a datestone marked 1848 in raised figures.
