Description
Spittlegate Mill and Mill House is located on the River Witham, south of the junction of Bridge End Road and Somerby Hill. The Mill House, dating from the late 18th century, is a three-storey brick structure with a pantile roof. It features stone bands between the first and second floor windows and has five windows on the north-west front, each with flat stone arches that have shaped tops and keystones, as well as flush frames with glazing bars. The central doorway on the south-east front has a similar arch to the windows and is topped with a plain hood supported by simple brackets. A cast iron escape stair is located at the end of the north-west front. The adjoining mill is a two-storey brick building with a slate roof and square-headed brick windows. Below the buildings, two segmental brick arches with plain stone imposts and keys span the river. The site is picturesquely situated and reflects a style that is common in the local area.
