Description

These are a pair of cottages located on the north side of Main Street, Greatford. They likely date to the late 17th century, with an extension added around 1700. The cottages were altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The right-hand side is constructed of coursed and banded limestone rubble, while the left-hand side is built of squared limestone rubble. They have roofs of Collyweston slate with raised stone coped gables. The cottages are arranged in a parallel plan, with gable and single ridge stacks, the gables incorporating ashlar and brickwork. The cottages are one storey with attics, and have a six-bay front. The central door is planked, flanked by single three-light windows. To the left is a glazed door and fixed light, and to the right a two-light glazing-bar casement. All windows are under timber lintels. Four hipped dormers are set into the roof, each containing a two-light glazing-bar casement and slate cheeks. A datestone inscribed "RGS 1802" is visible in the gable end of the rear range.
