Description
The Old School, Crane Cottage and Rose Cottage are a group of former buildings, originally a school constructed in 1761, and later altered and extended in the mid-19th century. They are now three separate houses. The exterior is built from squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and stone dressings. The roof is covered in collyweston slate, with raised stone coped gables and red brick stacks. The main front is a single storey with an attic, and has five bays. The central panelled door has a plain overlight, and above it is an ashlar plaque inscribed "TTB 1761". To the right of the door is a cross-mullioned window, and to the left a sash window with glazing bars, both under timber lintels. Two 19th-century three-light casement windows are set in chamfered ashlar surrounds to the left. The roof features three hipped dormers, each with a two-light casement and slate cheeks. The left-hand side of the front has a planked door within a Caernarvon arched surround. To the left of the door is a tall two-light window that extends through the eaves to a gable, and to the right are tall single three- and four-light windows. A small two-light window is located in the gable, all with ashlar surrounds.
