Description

Shuttlecock Lodge, a gateway and store, was likely built around 1830, possibly by Joseph Ireland. The lodge is constructed from squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. It features collyweston slate roofs and single stone wall stacks. The cast iron ogee latticed gates are set within flanking screens supported by square panelled piers with embattled tops.

To the left of the main lodge block is a single-storey store block, with a single bay containing a two-light top-hung iron casement window. A taller, embattled tower is situated in the rear left corner, also with embattled parapets and cornice.

The main lodge block is two storeys and irregular in shape with two bays. The left bay has a small rectangular fixed light at ground floor level and a two-light window above. The right bay has a similar two-light window at both ground and first floor levels. These windows are mullioned with moulded hoods. Attached to the right of the front is an octagonal tower with embattled parapets and cornice.

On the left side of the lodge, an entrance doorway has a pointed arched surround with a moulded hood. Beyond this doorway is a canted mullioned bay window with a hipped limestone roof.
