Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, dating from the 18th century. It was extended and significantly altered in 1851 by Edward Browning, with some minor changes made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a Collyweston slate roof with raised stone coped gables. It has single external wall and ridge ashlar stacks with embattled tops and consists of part parallel ranges.

The structure is two stories tall with a three-bay front. The right-hand bay is advanced and has a separate gable, while the left-hand end bay is recessed. A moulded string course runs along the front. The entrance features an off-centre six-panelled door with a pointed overlight, set in a pointed moulded surround with a hood mould. This door is located within a projecting steeply gabled porch that has stepped angle buttresses and a shield set in the gable.

To the right of the entrance, there are two three-light plain sash windows with moulded mullions and a transom, along with pierced cusped trefoil heads and blank shields. On the first floor, there are two three-light mullion windows, with the central window having a gable over it and the one to the right featuring a cornice. To the left, there is a single light window. The rear range of the building is earlier but has been much altered.
