Description
The cross shaft located on the south side of the Church of St. Peter, six yards from the south doorway, dates back to the 10th century, with some reworking in the 11th century. It is made of ashlar and features a tapering square shaft. Three sides of the shaft are decorated with panels of two-strand interlace, while the fourth side has been recut in the 11th century to create two roundels linked by a cable-moulded bar. This bar separates sunk panels that contain saltire crosses, which match the decoration found within the circles.
