Description

The Old House is a house dating from the 16th century, with a later addition from the 17th century, and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is made of Collyweston slate and has a triple-shafted red brick ridge stack along with a double circular shafted 17th-century ridge stack, with later brick stacks located behind.

The building is designed in an L-plan and is a single storey plus attics, with a four-bay front. The left-hand bay is advanced and gabled. There is an off-centre 19th-century panelled door set in a Caernarvon arched surround, which is located in a pent-roofed porch at the angle. To the left of the door is a single 19th-century three-light canted bay window with a hipped slate roof. To the right is a similar wooden bay window with 17th-century ashlar reveals, and beyond that is a three-light casement window with leaded panes and a timber lintel.

On the first floor, there is a 19th-century three-light mullioned window to the left, and to the right are three gabled dormers with slate-hung cheeks. Two of these dormers feature 17th-century three-light mullioned windows with cornices, while one has two-light wooden casements. Inside, the house contains chamfered beams, with one beam featuring a neat ogee and roll stop. There is also some 18th-century dado panelling.
