Description
Sudbrook Old Hall is a farmhouse dating back to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. It has stone-coped gables and two gable and two ridge stacks, covered by a concrete tiled roof. The plan is in a "T" shape. The main two-storey, six-bay front is irregular. A projecting gabled wing to the left has 18th-century glazing bar sash windows set within moulded stone surrounds with keystones. The first floor features a three-light mullioned window with a moulded hood mould and label stops, and above this a two-light mullioned window with a similar hood mould and label stops. The main wing has a centrally positioned 18th-century glazed panelled door within a contemporary plain stone surround incorporating a raised keyblock displaying a heraldic device. To the right of the door is a 19th-century three-light casement bay window with a shallow-pitched slate roof. Next to this is a 16th-century two-light mullioned window with a moulded surround and drip mould. Further along is an 18th-century panelled door within a plain stone surround with a hood mould and label stops, and to its right, an 18th-century three-light casement window in a plain stone surround with a raised keyblock. Three of the first-floor windows have wooden cross mullions, plainstone surrounds, and raised keystones. To the left of these is a small 19th-century fixed two-light window retaining a 16th-century hood mould with label stops. The south front of the left-hand block has two pairs of early 18th-century windows on the ground floor. These are glazing bar sashes with moulded stone surrounds, raised keyblocks featuring pulvinated friezes, and moulded cornices above. The first floor has two single-light glazing bar sashes with timber lintels.
