Description
The Engine House at Engine Farm is an early 19th century structure, with elements from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed for fen drainage. It is built from colourwashed brick and features slate roofs with modillioned eaves. The west front has three bays, including a late 19th century bay to the north and a raised gabled central bay, which contains a semi-circular window with fixed glazing bars and radiating spokes. To the left of this bay is a doorway with a semi-circular head and a plank door. Above the central gable, there is an oculus with radiating spokes.
On the south side, there is a central semi-circular headed doorway with a plank door. The east side features a central raised and gabled bay with a doorway that has a semi-circular head, an overlight, and double plank doors. To the left of this doorway is a window with fixed glazing bars and a semi-circular relieving arch above it. To the right, there is another doorway with a wooden lintel, a semi-circular relieving arch above, and double plank doors. Above the central gable on this side, there is also an oculus with radiating spokes. Inside, the building retains an intact Ruston-Hornsby diesel engine.
