Description
Dower House and Coach House is a house and coach house built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early and mid-19th century, and the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a Cumberland slate roof with raised stone coped gables and kneelers, and two gable stacks. The right-hand stack is external and made of ashlar with a plinth and cornice, while the left-hand stack has a brick base and a moulded terracotta shaft, along with a single ridge stack that has two terracotta shafts, all decorated with spirals and lozenges.
The building has parallel ranges and is two storeys high with a garret. The front has five bays, with a central glazing bar sash window flanked by two similar windows, one of which is deeper. On the first floor, there are five smaller windows, two of which have higher cills to the right. Above the central window, there is a two-light plain casement set in a separate gable. All windows feature ashlar surrounds and flat lintels with keystones. Inside, the property retains its shutters.
Attached to the left side of the house is a coach house with a stepped gable, which contains a wide basket carriage arch that now has 20th-century garage doors. This coach house is linked to the main house by a single-storey range.
