Description

Ball Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and features a thatched roof with stone-coped tumbled gables and brick kneelers. The building has a T-plan layout, a tall plinth with a chamfered top and ashlar corner stones, and a first-floor brick band raised over the window heads, which matches the gable bands.

The house is two stories plus a garret, with a two-bay front. The left bay is gabled and projects as a cross wing. On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century four-light windows with segmental heads beneath the raised band. The first floor has three three-light windows with segmental heads, and the garret features a two-light window with a segmental head and a short raised band above. The long side of the house has a single three-light window, a two-light window, and a four-light window, all with segmental heads, while the first floor has two three-light windows and a single two-light window. At the rear, there is a 19th-century planked door with a segmental head and additional three-light windows. All windows are 20th-century leaded lights with wooden mullions.

Inside, the property features chamfered girders with triangular stops, chamfered door frames with ogee stops, and two large round-backed fireplaces with curved and chamfered bressummers. An upstairs room contains an early 18th-century eared surround with a pulvinated frieze and rusticated sides, along with an early 18th-century cornice in one room. The timbers have been reused and show mortice holes. The roof is a clasped oak purlin design, which is pegged, with a ridge purlin.
