Description

These are a pair of mid-18th century houses located on the west side of London Road. They are small, five-storey buildings constructed of red brick, with the exterior of number 44 finished in roughcast. The parapets are of varying heights, with those of number 44 having been replaced. Numbers 42 and 43 each feature a single window with a segmental arched head, containing hung sash windows with glazing bars. Number 44 has two windows, one of which lacks glazing bars. Number 42 has an attractive, bowed ground-floor shop front, lacking glazing bars, with an ornamental frieze, cornice, and a rusticated stone base. A similar shop front was formerly present on number 44, but it has been replaced with a modern shop front. Number 43 has a six-panel door with a blocked fanlight, while the upper part of number 44 has painted blank panels. These buildings are included as part of a group.
