Description

Nos. 13 and 15, East Street are two shops with living accommodation above, built in 1832. The building is constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and some rendering, and has a pantile roof with gable stacks. It is three storeys high, with three bays, a high plinth, and a central opening leading to a through passageway. The passageway is flanked by single doorways; the right-hand doorway has a blocked overlight, and the left-hand doorway has margin lights, with both doorways having partially glazed doors. Beyond each doorway is a bowed shop window. Stylised Ionic pilasters frame all the openings. A broad continuous entablature and moulded cornice run above. The upper floors have glazing bar sashes, with two larger sashes above a blind opening; two smaller glazing bar sashes above these flank a smaller blind opening. All the openings are topped with flush red brick wedge lintels. The west return features a gable datestone inscribed 'BJA 1832'.
