Description

Owen’s Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with raising and alterations from the early 19th century and further changes in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a pantiled Mansard roof featuring raised stone coped gables and two 20th-century brick gable stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape. The three-bay front is two stories high, plus attics, and has a red brick dog tooth eaves course. The central entrance has a six-panelled door within a plain wooden surround, covered by a 19th-century wooden porch with an ogee archway, an unglazed fanlight, and latticed panels. Flanking the door are single glazing bar sash windows. Above, three similar windows are arranged on the first floor, the central one being narrower. All windows have shouldered and moulded ashlar architraves. An inscription on a quoin to the right of the front reads: 'Vorax: Pestis Threk-ac: Saevire Mese Maio 1646 Robert Gaton'.
