Description
The Church of St Michael is a parish church that dates back to the 13th century and was restored and extended by M Drury and Martimer in 1859. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate ridge roof with an eastern gable that has a coping and a finial. The church includes a west tower, a three-bay nave, a south porch, and an eastern apse.
The tower, primarily from the 13th century, has two lancet windows on the lower levels. The bell chamber features a two-light opening with geometric tracery on each face. The stone octagonal spire is adorned with four lucarne. The north front has four buttresses and a single lancet window to the west, along with two 19th-century two-light windows that also have geometric tracery.
The eastern semi-circular apse is unbuttressed and includes a corbel table and three lancets. The south front features a porch with a slate ridge roof and a stone-coped gable topped with a finial cross and splayed buttresses. It has a moulded pointed opening and two notable 19th-century windows, along with internal fittings from the same period.
