Description
West Lodge and Gates is a gate lodge built in the late 19th century. It is constructed from rough cut stone with ashlar dressings and features a two-storey design topped with a slate ridge roof and a single tall chimney on the north gable. The building is characterized by a prominent two-storey, off-centre circular turret that has a conical slate roof.
On the ground floor of the turret, there are two sash windows with ashlar sills and lintels, while the upper section displays a chequered pattern made of alternating blocks of rough cut and ashlar stone. Above this, four casement windows are grouped together, each with upper leaded lights. The turret is topped with a wooden bracketed eaves cornice that extends over three half-former windows of the same style to the north. Below the turret, there is a tripartite window with a segment-headed design and rough cut voussoirs, featuring casement windows similar to those above.
The doorway on the south side has a bracketed canopy above it and a simple door with three glazed panels. The lodge is complemented by elaborate gates and gatepiers, along with plain railings to the south.
