Description
Evans Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1782. It is constructed of red brick, partially rendered, with red brick dressings, and features a pantile roof with brick coped gables and kneelers. The building has two spine wall stacks and a double range plan, rising to two and a half storeys.
The south front has three bays, with a central doorway that contains a 20th-century half-glazed door with an overlight. This doorway is flanked by two contemporary small plain glazing bar sashes. Above, there are three similar sashes, all with segment headed wedge lintels. A second floor band is present, above which are three small glazing bar sashes with wooden lintels.
The west front is gabled and rendered, featuring two glazing bar sashes on the ground floor, a similar sash above, and a blind painted window. There is a similar arrangement of smaller windows above this. The east front is also gabled and has a single plank door with an overlight, two glazing bar sashes to the left, and two similar sashes above, all with segment headed wedge lintels. Above these, there are two smaller similar sashes with segment heads.
Inside, the south-west corner room contains a pair of round-headed cupboards from the late 18th century, featuring raised and fielded panels. This farmhouse was built for the Whitchcote family, whose initials were on a lead pump dated 1782 that once stood in the yard. The farmhouse is marked as Top Farm on the Ordnance Survey Map.
