Description
The Church of St Andrew is a parish church dating to the 13th century. It was largely rebuilt in 1854 by R C Hussey following work in 1749. The church is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins, a moulded ashlar plinth, and slate roofs with ashlar coped gables, moulded kneelers. It comprises a tower, nave, north aisle and porch, chancel, and vestry. The 13th-century western tower has angle buttresses and an extended south-west corner, incorporating a spiral staircase. It features a single square window on the south side with a flush pointed relieving arch, and Y-tracery bell openings with a 19th-century pierced balustrade and crochetted pinnacles. The south nave has four 2-light windows with reticulated tracery and hood moulds; two similar windows illuminate the chancel. The east end has a 4-light window with flowing tracery, segment-headed and with a hood mould. A simple gable porch features a pointed opening. The interior contains a four-bay nave with simple 19th-century fittings.
