Description
High House is a house built in the 18th century and early 19th century. The original 18th-century house was burnt down around 1805 and was rebuilt in red brick in 1808, retaining some of the rear stone walls. It features a three-bay, two-storey structure with an attic and is double fronted. The facade includes two wooden splayed bay windows with pilasters and an entablature, glazing bar sashes, and slate roofs. The central doorway has a pedimented doorcase with two fluted pilasters, and the door consists of six fielded panels with a modern glazed rectangular fanlight above. There are three segment-headed glazing bar sashes above the door, featuring brick voussoirs. The house has three dormers with segmental tops and sashes. The slate mansard ridge roof is adorned with decorative iron ornamentation and has two brick stacks in the gables. To the east, there is a three-bay single-storey section with modern glazing, likely of 18th-century origin. The building is constructed with coursed rubble and quoins, and there is a single-storey lean-to at the rear, which is also part of the original 18th-century house.
