Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church dating to 1821, designed by R. H. Sharpe and P. Atkinson, with additions and alterations in 1887 and the 20th century. It was constructed in the Perpendicular style, using stock brick with limestone ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Several fragments of medieval fabric were incorporated into the new construction.
The church’s exterior is rectangular, featuring a west bellcote, a narthex, and a chancel with a north organ chamber. The west front has a central pointed doorway, a large pointed window above with five lights, and flanking niches that may incorporate reused medieval material. The north side features three pointed windows with three lights each. An 1887 gabled organ chamber projects to the north, and the chancel has a pointed window to the north and a large pointed east window. The south side mirrors the north. A lean-to coal hole is situated against the east side of the nave.
Inside, a 20th-century screen divides the narthex from the nave. A tall pointed chancel arch is a prominent feature, as is the panelled wagon roof of the chancel, supported by stone corbels. A piscina with a flattened pointed head is located in the south chancel. The church also contains a 19th-century altar rail, reredos, pulpit, pews, and choir stalls. A 15th-century octagonal font with carved emblems and motifs is also present, as is a grey and white marble monument to Robert Chomeley.
