Description

This is a pump built in 1907, made of limestone ashlar. It features a square low plinth topped by a smaller higher square plinth with a spout on the south side. The tall rectangular block has a moulded base inscribed with the date 1899, which commemorates the erection of the pump in memory of F. A. Freshney, who died from wounds received while fighting in South Africa. Above this, there is a moulded chamfered cornice, and the upper block is adorned with ornate angels at the corners, alternating with shields. The structure is capped with an ogee-shaped cap that has an ornate finial.
