Description

The Manor House is a house with a rear range dating from the early 18th century. The front facade was raised and altered in the late 18th century, with a rear addition built in 1899 by the architects Croft and Bentley. The house is constructed of red brick with painted stone and stucco dressings, and has a slate roof with stone coped gables and kneelers, along with two brick gable stacks. It was originally L-shaped. The front has three storeys and three bays, with painted stone bands marking the first and second floors. The central entrance has a four-panelled door with a traceried fanlight, set within a stone doorcase featuring Tuscan columns supporting a dentillated open pediment. Flanking the door are single tripartite glazing bar sash windows. The first floor has a central Venetian glazing bar sash window with a stepped key block, flanked by single tripartite windows. On the second floor is a central semi-circular fixed light with Gothic glazing bars, a bracketed sill, and a stepped key block, again flanked by smaller tripartite windows. All tripartite windows have splayed stucco lintels.

Inside, the late 18th-century staircase has a generously wreathed handrail and delicate turned and knopped balusters. The hall contains late 19th-century dado panelling, stained glass, and other fittings. A front room features a late 18th-century fireplace surround with urns, wreaths, a dentillated cornice and a cast iron Bath grate. The kitchen in the rear wing contains an impressive cast iron range from around 1900, made by Cartwright and Pickering of Louth, set within a blue and white tiled surround.
