Description
The Thatched Cottage is a cottage located on Church Lane in Great Sturton, dating from the 17th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is likely constructed of mud and stud, finished with colour washed mud and colour washed red brick. It features a thatched half hipped roof with wooden eaves on the return walls and a central ridge stack. The cottage is a single storey with a garret and has a three-bay front.
The east front includes a deep set doorway on the right, which has a 20th-century partially glazed panelled door. To the left of the doorway are two deep set sliding sash windows. On the west side, there are two sliding sash windows to the right and a single three-light 20th-century casement window to the left. At the rear, there is a small 19th-century lean-to on the return wall. Inside, there are back-to-back fireplaces with large chamfered beams that have plain stops.
