Description

The gates and piers to Well Vale Park date from around 1730 and are constructed from ashlar stone. They consist of two gate piers designed as obelisks, featuring fluted circular bases adorned with lion heads. Each pier is topped with pineapple finials and has human head masks on the sides, surrounded by dependent foliage and moulded shells. Originally, these gate piers were located in the forecourt of Well Hall but were moved in the late 20th century to near the kitchen garden entrance, and again around 2004 to their current position.
