Description
The Old School is a former school building, now divided into two houses, constructed in 1851 and enlarged in 1894. It is made of red brick and features slate roofs, with two triple ridge stacks and one double ridge stack. The building has an E-plan layout and is single storey with two-storey cross wings, presenting a five-bay front. Architectural details include a plinth, a first-floor band, a dogtooth course, and overhanging eaves.
The central doorway is topped with a fanlight and has a moulded stone surround with key and impost blocks, set within a gabled projecting porch that features corner pilasters. Above the door is a circular datestone inscribed "C T 1851," framed by a moulded keyed surround. On either side of the entrance are triple arched narrow semi-circular headed margin lights, which have continuous stone sills and brick heads. The two-storey bay projects and includes corner pilasters, with central double arched lights and a single similar window above. The village of Stixwould was part of the Christopher Turner Estate in the 19th century.
