Description

Hovenden Manor is a rectory that has been converted into a house, built in 1854 by S. S. Teulon. The structure is made of red brick, with some use of 18th-century brick and ashlar dressings. It features a plain and fish scale tiled roof, along with two red brick gable stacks. The left gable shows some tumbling. The building is set on a plinth and has two storeys with three bays. The right bay is a single half-hipped bay, while the left bay is gabled with tumbling.

There is a single projecting canted bay with a hipped roof, which is interrupted by a first-floor opening. This bay has a three-light cross casement window at the front and single similar single-light windows on each side. To the right, there is a small casement window, and on the far right, an arched window with three triangular arched lights and a single transom, all featuring ashlar surrounds. Above these are two ashlar cross casements with flush ashlar quoin surrounds, along with a large central casement that has a single mullion and two transoms, also with a flush ashlar quoin surround. The outer first-floor windows have pointed relieving arches.

In the apex of the left bay, there is a roundel containing a sexfoil. The rear of the building has various two-storey wings with windows in ashlar surrounds. A lean-to porch with a plain tile roof is supported by a low red brick wall topped with open traceried woodwork, leading to an inner pointed arched doorway.
