Description
The Welton le Wold War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of St Martin's Church, which is a Grade II* listed building. It stands to the west of the church, outside the tower, and is made of rough hewn granite. The memorial features a square base that supports a tapering plinth, also square in shape, topped with a plain Celtic cross.
The west face of the pedestal has been smoothed to display an inscription in black lettering, which reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE FROM THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 AND WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED BELOW" followed by six names. Additionally, there is another inscription on the west face of the base that lists the names of two men who died in the Second World War, along with the dates 1939-1945.
