Description
The statue to William Dennis, located in front of Kirton Town Hall, was created in 1930 by sculptor P. Lindsey Clark. It is made of ashlar and bronze, featuring a Portland stone base with carved panels on three sides that depict potato production, drainage, and wheat growing. The front of the statue bears the inscription "William Dennis 1841-1921." The bronze figure is seated, with crossed ankles and a walking stick, and his hat is placed at the rear. William Dennis built a significant fortune through a large potato empire at the turn of the century and donated the town hall to Kirton, which is situated near the statue.
