Description

The Kirton War Memorial is made of rough-hewn Cornish granite and is situated on The Green along the High Street in the center of Kirton. The memorial features an obelisk that stands on a square plinth with a seven-stepped base.

Inscriptions are incised into polished plaques on the sides of the plinth and are painted in black and gold. The front face of the plinth displays the following inscription: "IN GRATEFUL AND GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF KIRTON WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WARS 1914 – 1918 1939 – 1945." The other faces list the names of the fallen, with one face additionally stating: "THEIR NAMES LIVE FOR EVER."
