Description
Hobhole Sluice is a sluice built in 1805 by John Rennie, constructed from gritstone ashlar. It features raked and battered flanking walls, with facetted cutwaters, one of which has depth marks in Roman numerals. A plain band runs along the structure, and the coped parapet curves slightly to the end piers. The sluice includes iron sluice gates and stone steps, with a curving wall on the Haven side. It was designed with three openings, each measuring 15 feet, and is part of John Rennie's project for draining the Fen. The waters from the Hobhole drain flow into the Haven at this sluice.
