Description
Pinchbeck House is a former schoolhouse that has been converted into a house. It was built in 1665 and underwent alterations in the late 18th century and the 20th century. The building is made of colourwashed brick and has a slate roof, featuring a T-plan layout. It is two stories tall, plus a garret, and has a three-bay front with a plinth, first floor, and eaves bands. The first floor band is raised over the door, showcasing Fen Artisan Mannerist style.
The central entrance consists of a six-panel door set in a pedimented surround with narrow pilasters, flanked by large 20th-century three-light windows with segmental brick heads. On the first floor, there are two similar windows on either side of a central glazing bar light. The right-hand gable retains paired windows on the ground floor, also with segmental heads and keyblocks, all in brick, along with a decorative band. There is a further blocked window on the first floor. In the garret, there is a two-light sliding sash window with a rusticated brick surround. The rear range of the building also displays remnants of Fen Artisan Mannerist detailing. This house is part of the school foundation established in 1665 by Anthony Pinchbeck.
