Description
LONG WHATTON WEST END SK 4723 13/202 Manor House Farm House, with outbuildings 7.12.62 attached to rear - II
House. Gabled cross wing to right is of c1600, with front gable rebuilt early C20; left wing, with outshot to rear, is of c1700; rear wing, including dove- cote, is mid C18. Right wing has timber-framing with close diagonal studding in right side. Later brick infill, granite rubble plinth. Front gable. end rebuilt in red brick with blue brick diaper in gable. Left wing is of red brick with vitreous headers, chequered to upper storey, and has rubble stone plinth with chamfered coping, dressed stone quoins and stone gable copings. Swithland slate roofs, brick chimneys rebuilt C19 with rows of 3 square shafts linked by off-set caps. 2 storeys and attic; 3 bays to front. Each bay is gabled to front, and right bay projects. Left bays have cogged brick string courses at first and second floor levels, and there are similar short strings over attic windows in all 3 bays. C19-C20 horizontal sashes with glazing bars, 3-light to main floors, 2-light to attics. Blocked single light to first floor between left bays, over C20 door in banded. stone surround with stone lintel. 2-storey rear wing with granite rubble ground floor and brick upper storey with off-set eaves. External brick steps lead up to storage room over kitchen, and far end of wing has garage below and dovecote with c1500 nesting boxes above. Each row of boxes has cogged brick ledge. Glover removed. INTERIOR of house: right wing has wide winder stair to attic, timber-framed partition walls, and moulded spine beam to first floor room. Left wing is of lobby entry plan with central chimney, and has timber-framed partitions between main rooms and outshot. Ground floor left room has spine beam and joists decorated with small ornamental gouges. Ground floor right room has moulded spine and joists. Some moulded C17 panels re-used in room to first floor right. Heavy rough joists and roughly arched fireplace lintel in kitchen.
