Description
No 53 and 53A on Market Street, including the rear range of outbuildings along Mill Lane, is an early 19th-century building. It features a stuccoed facade with a band, a moulded eaves cornice, and an old tiled roof. The structure stands three storeys tall and has four windows with barred sashes. The entrance is highlighted by a moulded stuccoed doorcase with an open pediment and an arched fanlight. There is also a good 19th-century shop front on the eastern side.
The outbuildings, mostly dating from the 18th century, are primarily constructed of painted brick and have tiled roofs. They are generally one or one and a half storeys high. Notable features include one segment-headed sash window, a modern door with a small casement window cutting into the eaves, a small segment-headed casement window, a large entrance with a small casement window above it, and a square sash window above that. Additionally, there is a long range of outbuildings with apertures only in the upper storey, most of which have a brick dentil frieze.
