Description
Hall Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse constructed of brick with a tiled roof. It stands three storeys high and features a symmetrical facade with three bays. The central doorway is accompanied by a 19th-century porch, and the building has sash windows with brick heads. A stone string course runs above the ground floor. To the left, there is a three-storey wing that has one bay. Notably, Sir George Beaumont lived here for a time during the rebuilding of the hall. The poets William and Dorothy Wordsworth were visitors between 1806 and 1808, and it was here that Wordsworth wrote his sonnet on the conquest of Switzerland by Napoleon. Additionally, the artist David Wilkie painted 'The Blind Fiddler' in the kitchen.
