Description

West Cottage and the boundary wall at Cold Overton Hall is a former wood and coal store and servants' lodgings, now functioning as a house. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone early 20th-century alterations and additions. The building is constructed from banded ironstone and limestone, featuring ashlar dressings and a half hipped Collyweston slate roof with coped hips and a grouped coped stone lateral stack.

It stands two storeys plus attics and consists of three bays. The south end has a recessed 20th-century door on the left, with a three-light mullioned casement above that has a moulded mullion, chamfered reveal, and leaded glazing. To the right is a stair light with a chamfered surround, and above that is a smaller three-light mullioned casement.

On the east side, there are two 20th-century casements with concrete lintels, a stair light with a chamfered surround to the left, and a central two-light mullioned casement above. There is also a slate-hung gabled dormer with a two-light casement above that. The north end features a 20th-century casement and a central three-light mullioned casement above, along with a similar smaller casement above that.

The west side has an off-centre 20th-century door flanked by a casement on the right and a mullioned casement beyond that. Above, there is a central slate-hung gabled dormer with a two-light casement. Inside, the building includes a stone spiral staircase, a chamfered span beam, and a plaster corner fireplace in the 17th-century style.

To the south, there is an ironstone boundary wall with moulded coping that is approximately 30 meters long, along with a range of 20th-century lean-to wooden sheds. This building was originally erected as a fuel store and servants' lodgings for Cold Overton Hall.
