Description
The Lodge is a building located in Laughton Hills, designed by C F A Voysey for William Taylor in 1920. It is constructed of roughcast rendered brick with stone dressings, featuring a Collyweston slate roof and slate-hung gables. The building has a rendered brick ridge stack and a blue-grey brick plinth. It stands two storeys high with a garret and has a west front that consists of three bays.
The central entry is recessed and features a pointed arch with a hood-mould and returned steps. To the right of the arch is a stone loop, while to the left and right are 3-light mullioned casement windows. Above these, there are similar casements on both sides. The gable end walls have 2-light mullioned casements on both storeys, as well as 2-light garret windows above. All windows are fitted with iron frames and leaded lights.
Inside, the original exposed oak joists are visible, and the door furniture is made of cast iron or bronze. The staircase features splat balusters, and there are pointed arch chimneypieces made of brick or tile. Original drawings by Voysey can be found in the RIBA drawings collection.
