Description

Loddington Grange is a large house primarily built in the late 19th century, though it may have earlier origins. The structure features finely coursed ironstone rubble and includes one brick wing, with roofs made of stone tiles and Welsh slate. It is two storeys high, with a three-storey rear wing.

The south elevation has three bays on a plinth, showcasing three and four-light mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floor, and three four-light mullions above, all with ovolo moulding. A string course acts as a hood mould for the lower windows. The house has axial and gable stacks.

The east elevation serves as the entrance front, featuring a lean-to two-storey porch. The upper storey of the porch is supported by chamfered wooden posts and braces, resting on an embattled coped stone base. This upper section is half-timbered with pargetting that includes floral designs, shields of arms, and the initials HM. It has a single two-light casement window.

To the right of the porch is a slightly advanced gabled brick wing, which has a four-light mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, a four-light mullion above, and a slit in the apex of the coped gable. The rear wing to the west may date from the 18th century and is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, three storeys high, with the upper storey likely added later. It features a central door flanked by wooden mullioned and transomed leaded casements with flat stone lintels.
